Who We Are
We are two clinical teenage disasters trying to spread a message: mental health isn't cute, nor should one believe everything found on tumblr. |
This blog was created as a senior english project for a class at Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia, PA. Most of the project was meant as satire, a way to critque modern society. Unlike generations before us, we have access to the internet and pressures put on us like never before. The internet means we're more connected than ever, meaning we see everything everyone is doing. Kids are getting into all 8 Ivy League Universities and getting perfect scores on the SAT/ACT. The pressure on today's teenager is leading to higher rates of depression and anxiety in kids, and even if they make it to the Ivy Leagues, the suicide rates are just climbing. Despite having alll the information we could ever need at our finger tips, there's still a stigma around mental illness. More and more kids are self harming, and people are attempting to understand what could drive people to want to physically harm themselves. Because of this, people are writting books that are horribly misinformed such as "Cut" by Patricia McCormick. We set out to show how this is a problem, and show how people need to be more informed about mental illness, especially with the amount of information surrounding us.
